How to Treat Baby From Diaper Rash

Diaper rash is quite common on babies. It can be very uncomfortable for them to experience this type of rash. The extreme itch will cause them to cry. Babies aged 9 months to 12 months old usually get diaper rash since they are more active and can rub their diapers easily on their skin. Moms need to know how to both cure and prevent it. Here are its most common causes: ·         Leaving a wet or dry diaper too long on the baby. ·         Friction caused by rubbing against the diaper. ·         Allergic reaction to the diaper. ·         Irritation by urine or stool. ·         Skin sensitivity of the baby. ·         Very tight diaper. Generally, diaper rash can be cured at home. You can apply a cream or ointment on the rash to reduce the itching and smoothen the scaly areas. Petroleum jelly is one of the most common aids for rashes, helping to relieve the redness and itchiness by leaving the skin moisturized. Another is an ingredient called Zinc Oxide. A thin cover of this is enough throughout the day to soothe and protect the baby’s skin. Petroleum jelly can be applied above the cover to prevent it from sticking to the diaper. When you want to remove the cream or ointment, don’t rub it off because it may scratch the skin and can cause redness. Use a mineral oil on a cotton ball to remove the cream or ointment.  Moms can prevent diaper rashes from forming on their babies’ skin by following these simple rules: ·         Wash hands before and after changing the diaper. ·         Check diaper every so often to see if it becomes wet or soiled. ·         When washing the baby, use plain water. If trying to wash of poop, use a mild cleanser then rinse off with plain water. ·         Use mild wipes only. Avoid wipes with high alcohol content and with fragrances because they may cause irritation and allergies. ·         Use a clean and soft washcloth to dry off the baby. ·         Gently pat the area to clean and dry the baby instead of rubbing. ·         Make sure that the area is clean and dry before putting on a new diaper. Avoid using tight diapers so it will not cause any friction to the baby’s skin. During the rash, use a diaper with a larger size than usual. It can also be advisable that the baby can go without a diaper for a short period of time to freshen the skin with natural air. When the rash is stubborn and does not go away easily, it is best to go to your pediatrician right away. If not treated properly, the baby may experience fever, redness and swelling of the area. There are a lot of diaper products in the market, so it is easy to find which brand is the most suitable for your baby. Overall, it is suggested to use a natural, soft and organic diaper to avoid diaper rash.  Looking for a natural and organic diaper for your baby, Mommy?
